The people of Karachi experience the coldest winter morning of the season


 Karachiites witnessed the coldest morning of the season as the temperature dropped to 6°C, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) reported on Sunday.

 According to the PMD, Karachi recorded a minimum temperature of 6 °C with 50% humidity. However, according to weather analyst Jawad Memon, the temperature dropped to 4.5 degrees Celsius in the northern parts of the metropolis last night.

 The city of lights recorded its lowest temperature at Jinnah Terminal this morning as the mercury dropped to 4.3 degrees Celsius, the Meteorological Department said.

 PAF Faisal base recorded 8.5 °C, Masroor base 7.5 °C and northern part of the city recorded 4.5 °C at night.

 The PMD has forecast dry and cool weather during the next 24 hours, with northeasterly winds of 10-12km/h. While weather analyst Jawad Memon predicted severe cold to continue till January 16.

 The PMD said last week that Sindh is witnessing cold weather under the influence of a western system that has entered the province through Balochistan.

 According to PMD's weekly weather forecast, cold and dry weather is expected throughout most of the country with fog and snowfall throughout the week.

 The outlook said, "Mainly cool and dry weather is expected over most parts of the country, while very cold over upper parts and north Balochistan. Frost likely during morning hours over Potohar region, Kashmir and Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Foggy conditions are likely. Upper In the plains of Sindh, Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa."

 Earlier, the Meteorological Department had predicted cold and dry weather in most parts of the country and cloudy weather in western and upper districts.

 The PMD said the snowfall had stopped in Murree but the weather remained severe. Citizens had to face inconvenience as the water in the pipeline froze at the hill station, which is a popular tourist area in winter.

 In Punjab, the M2 motorway was closed for traffic from Lahore to Khanqah Dogran as fog continued to engulf different cities in the province. Motorway police blocked traffic from Faizpur to Jaranwala and M11 from Lahore to Sambaral.
